On the outskirts of Sleepy Hollow lived a widow named Martha who was famous for her scrumptious pumpkin pies. Every Halloween, all the children in the town would come to collect their treats, and they adored her pies! Her secret was one unusual ingredient – pumpkin seeds from the cursed pumpkin patch!
One year, greedy for the sweetest pumpkin, Martha picked a giant one that the legends said was haunted. Unworried by such tales, she made her pies. Halloween night came, and as always, children knocked at Martha’s door, eager for their favorite treat.
As the clock struck midnight, strange things began to happen. The pies, now eaten, started to squeak! Frightened, Martha grabbed a leftover piece. With a bite, it squealed and plopped into a mini pumpkin. She screamed as pies began morphing into a potpourri of pumpkins!
The pumpkin pies had had their sweet revenge. Martha had disturbed their cursed slumber, and now, every Halloween, everyone waits for pumpkin pies to turn into actual pumpkins. And whenever her pies are distributed, they say, “Bake at your own risk; you’re in for a gourd surprise!”
