It was a dark and stormy Halloween night and little Tommy, dressed as a pirate, was trick or treating. His candy bag was nearly bursting with sugary loot when he spotted a spooky mansion, shrouded in fog and cloaked in mystery. Swallowing his fear, he approached the door and rang the antique bell. The metallic ring echoed ominously through the pitch-dark house. After what felt like an eternity, the door crept open and a man, or what seemed to resemble one, stood there, looming over Tommy. Dressed completely in black, his eyes glowed an eerie red.
“Trick or treat!” Tommy stuttered, barely above a whisper. The man smiled, revealing a pair of fangs. Tommy felt his heart pounding but remembered he was a brave pirate. With renewed courage, he held out his candy bag.
To his surprise, the man actually dropped a couple of candies in his bag. “Thank you,” Tommy said, his voice barely audible. He turned to sprint away, anticipating the safety of the well-lit sidewalk.
Once he was a safe distance away, he peeked into his bag, desiring to uncover the mysterious gift. To his utter amazement, instead of candies, he found two gleaming nuggets of real gold in his bag. “I guess not all monsters are so monstrous after all,” he laughed, heading back home with even more Halloween treasure than he had bargained for!
