“The Haunting of Foxglove Manor: Unveiling Prunella’s Trickery”

Once upon a chilling October evening, two mischievous children, Benny and Maddy, decided to venture into the dreaded Foxglove Manor. It was whispered in hushed tones amongst the townsfolk that the Manor was haunted by a crotchety old witch named Prunella.

Benny, the elder, bolted up the creaky stairs, while Maddy tremulously followed. Their hearts pounded like drumbeats echoing in the stillness. There in the attic, they found a massive dusty mirror. Suddenly, Prunella’s spectral image materialized, sending shivers down their spines. She moaned, “Whosoever solves my riddle shall set me free!

The riddle went as follows: “I can be caught but not thrown, what am I?” The children, after much thought, replied in unison: “A cold!” At once, Prunella let out a shrill cry, her image faded, and the mirror shattered into a thousand twinkling pieces.

The children ran out, ecstatic, believing they had liberated the old witch. However, back at their home, they found a thank-you note, mysteriously signed by Prunella, with a big pot filled with sweet Halloween treats. The trick was on them – Prunella wasn’t a witch but the richest, loneliest lady in town, yearning for company and a good laugh.
