“The Mystical Key: A Halloween Trickster’s Tale”

Trick or treat?” those were the only words Abbey heard as she opened her rickety old door to the neighborhood kids. Dressed as the characters from the latest blockbuster and adorned with plastic bags waiting to be filled with candy, they stood waiting. A black cat crossed their path, silhouetted against the orange glow from a jack-o-lantern.

The night was young, and the festive spirit filled the air. Abbey gave out treats from a massive bowl of candy and marveled at the kids’ interesting costumes. As the children scurried off to the next house, her attention was drawn to a lone figure standing in her yard. A child, cloaked in a sheet, a simple, archaic ghost costume, stood silent and still.

Abbey beckoned over the child, gesturing to the bowl of candy. The figure moved closer, reached into the bowl and pulled out a small, shiny golden key. Abbey’s eyes widened, recognizing her long-lost locker key!

The ghost simply put the key back in the bowl, pulled off its sheet, revealing Abbey’s mischievous cat, the same one that had lost the key in the first place. “Tricked or treated, Abbey?” it seemed to purr, dashing off into the night.
