“The Night Watcher’s Sweet Surprise”

One Halloween night, in a small town forgotten by even the most adventurous mapmaker, a mysterious figure named Grimly resided. Grimly wasn’t just your everyday resident, in fact, he wasn’t a person at all. He was a wandering wisp of shadow known to many as “The Night Watcher”.

The doors and windows of always-knew-it little hamlet were tightly shut, while Grimly – a true enthusiast of ‘all-things-spooky’, strolled with a lantern that flickered not with fire, but with an ethereal blue glow.

Unbeknownst to the villagers, Grimly had a Halloween tradition—mingling with the moonlight, swooshing past the old oak, and frightening adults into spilling their candy bounty amidst terrified shrieks of ‘The Night Watcher!’. His laughter echoed through the night as the horror-induced ‘adult tax’ on candies piled up.

However, this year was different. Finn, a young boy barely into his double digits, had decided to return treats rather than tricks for “The Night Watcher”. Ready with his bag of prized licorice, he strode toward Grimly and offered him a handful. Grimly, charmed and surprised, accepted and disappeared into the night.

Somewhere in the dark shroud of the night, a shadow paused, chuckling to himself. The surprise wasn’t Finn’s bravery, but rather the taste of licorice. It wasn’t horror Grimly was after, just a tickle to his sweets craving. From then on, Halloween came to be celebrated not as a night of fear, but a night of sharing the sweet spirit of friendship.
