When Halloween night swung around in the small township of Kettleby, a sensation of creepiness fell over the usually genial neighborhood. Every heart palpitated a bit quicker with the eerie rumors of the haunted house by the hilltop, the site of the long-gone, eccentric inventor, Radcliffe.
Years after his departure, the odd, clinking noises heard on Halloween nights kept the story of ‘Radcliffe’s Robotic Ghost’ alive. Every now and then, a daredevil would rally to uncover the truth, but the curious clinks never allowed them much valor.
This Halloween was different. Little Sammy, new to Kettleby, was a brave kid and full of scrappy determination. With his little torchlight, Sammy creeped into Radcliffe’s house, following the clinking noise with undeniable courage. In the spooky silence, Sammy finally found the contributing factor to the town’s perpetual fear!
It was nothing but an old gramophone set on replay mode, manufactured by none other than the ingenious inventor, Radcliffe. It was his unique idea of a trick, that had everyone treat themselves with fear year after year. With an endearing shake of his head, Sammy said, “That’s ingenious, Mr. Radcliffe, but I think the town deserves a break!”
And thus, from the next Halloween and onwards, Kettleby was only haunted by the hilariously human-made ghost of Radcliffe’s forever clinking jokes!
