Once upon a time, in a town famous for its annual Halloween soiree, lived a spirited little girl named Carrie. This year, she had decided to be a ghost and was eager to scare everyone silly.
On Halloween night, she draped in a white sheet with eye holes cut out and floated around the party, emitting hoarse ghostly whispers that sent shivers down everyone’s spine. By the end of the night, she succeeded in scaring everyone, except old Granny smith, who laughed good-naturedly at her antics.
Annoyed by this, Carrie decided to up her scare game. She waited until everyone went home, then slipped into Granny Smith’s flower garden, wanting to give the old woman a real fright. But the minute she stepped onto the dewy grass, she spotted a real ghost, drifting amongst the tulips, emitting a glow that would terrify anyone.
Wide-eyed and shaking, Carrie ran back home, leaving her sheet behind. The next day, Granny Smith found it on the grass, and laughing heartily, remarked to her cat, “Now, who do you suppose was trying to scare me with this little sheet?” Her cat twirled around Granny’s leg, purring, just as unaware as its human of the genuine ghost plot that unfolded the previous night.
