“One spooky Halloween night, little Johnny, cloaked in a ghostly white sheet, packed his bag full of candies and set off for the haunted house at the end of Maple Lane. This house, rumored to be infested with unruly spirits, was avoided by all…well, everyone except Johnny.
Ignoring echoing whispers of ‘Beware’ from the wind, he walked up the creaky porch, his heart pounding against his chest. As he rang the rusty doorbell, a chilly gust of wind blew his sheet off, revealing a too large pirate costume underneath.”ARR Matey!” Johnny chuckled, lifting his eye patch to see better.
The old door creaked open, and just when Johnny was about to shout ‘Trick or Treat!’, a sparkle caught his eye. In the darkened hallway, a dusty, cookie jar shaped like a pumpkin! To his pure delight, it was filled with the grandest of all candies – the buttery, caramel toffees! Toffee-obsessed Johnny plunged his hand inside.
But what he pulled out wasn’t a toffee. It was a bald, green…pickle! A roaring laugh resonated around the room, followed by a sweet and mischievous elderly voice, “Beware young pirate, even ghosts can play tricks… or should I say…treats?”
‘Haunting lesson learnt’, thought Johnny, chuckling at his sour surprise.”
